The Story of Indian Animation Movie

Storytelling has been a central part of Indian culture with every region having its own style of telling. The Indian animation industry encompasses traditional 3D animation, 2D animation as well as visual effects for feature films. In 1956, Disney Studios animator Clair Weeks, who had worked on Bambi, was invited to Films Division of India in Mumbai to establish and train the country’s first animation studio as part of the American technical co-operation mission. He trained a core group of Indian animators, whose first creation was a film called The Banyan Deer (1957). Veteran animator Ram Mohan started his career at Films Division’s Cartoon Unit.

It was in the early 60’s, when Mandar Mullick started experimenting animation in his own small studio in Calcutta by building his own wooden animation stand and a Michel camera. In his studio he performed experiments in the area of advertising and animation films along with Ganesh Pyne, one of the notable contemporary artists of the Bengal School of art. This true here can be stated as the birthmark of animation in the Indian animation industry.
